We have faithfully recreated a legendary brake system from the 1990s — the WestPine Brake.
Inspired by the classic U-brake style, the WestPine features a bottom-mounted booster that makes it fully compatible with standard V-brake mounts. Its most striking feature is the parallelogram brake arm linkage, a rare design that, combined with full CNC-machined retro aesthetics, brings timeless charm to your bike.
We also offer laser etching customization, allowing customers to engrave their name or logo onto the arch. The engraving appears in white and adds a personal, premium touch.
Major Upgrades:
1. Redesigned Return Spring Mechanism
The original design used a single spring connecting the top of each brake arm. However, during use, we found it was easily thrown off balance by small bumps in the road — one arm to stick to the rim while the other pulled away completely. Recovery required manual resetting.
We’ve solved this issue by redesigning the return mechanism with a straight steel spring system similar to V-brakes, which completely eliminates the instability while preserving compatibility with the original design. For those who prefer the classic spring, the original structure remains fully supported.
2. U-Brake Compatibility
From the beginning, we redesigned the pivot diameter and spacing to support traditional U-brake mountain bike frames. We plan to release a dedicated U-brake version or compatibility kit in the next production batch.
3. Modern Pad Mounting System
The old cantilever-style pad fixing was replaced with a modern V-brake pad system. We also provide a pair of titanium pad extender bosses to help adjust for different rim widths.
A Note from Us:
To be honest, this project was driven by passion. The WestPine Brake is a work of art — it’s absolutely beautiful, and we couldn’t resist bringing it back.
That said, it’s not a replacement for modern V-brakes in terms of cost, convenience, or performance. It requires more tuning, patience, and possibly even modifications. But if you value aesthetics and the spirit of vintage cycling, it offers a unique and deeply satisfying experience.
